LIMOGES. L.S. by " les Electeurs, les Féderés et Gardes nationalles du département de
de Hautte Vienne", [Limoges August 13, 1790], to LOUIS XVI; 4 pages in-fol.
On the celebration of the Federation in Limoges.
"You are the father of the peupole, Your Majesty deigned to assure us of this; she made us say that she was only happy about our happiness, worried about our evils. [...] we received in the room where the electors were assembled, the federal banner; a crowd of people was assembled to welcome it, the National Guards of all the department were gathered to escort it. This sign of French liberty brought a holy outcry in all hearts, a general cry arose, and this cry was long live our King, long live our tender father, long live the Restorer of French liberty".They asked the King to celebrate this beautiful day by granting a pardon to a deserter of the Royal-Navarre Regiment, Etienne Solignac: "He is guilty, we know, but the King is good.Image of the supreme being, like him he is merciful. [...] Ah Sire! Let the prayers of those whom you call your children make you suffer. You have banished all intermediaries between the throne and the people [...] Oh the most tender, oh the most dear of all fathers, oh the best of all Kings, cast a glance of compassion on this unfortunate one"... Among the 10 signatories, we note the names of Gabril FAYE, President, and Pardoux BORDAS (both will be conventioneers of the Haute-Vienne), Gaillard secretary, Barbou commander of the Federation, Saint-Priest... Former collection Patrice Hennessy.
