A very interesting letter, where Bouillé proclaims his devotion to the King. After intervening on behalf of some people in Tobago and Saint-Domingue, and speaking about the sale of his house in Martinique, Bouillé speaks about the situation of the King (one month before the mutiny of Nancy, which he repressed harshly): "I think that you should be dismayed by the awful situation of the kingdom and of the King; God knows what the consequences will be; I shudder. I am the master in this province, and I believe that I can answer for the troops who have friendship and confidence in me; and I am determined to shed the last drop of my blood for the maintenance of the royal authority"...
