18 vol. in-8 of text and 1 volume in-4 of atlas uniformly bound in porphyry basane, richly decorated smooth spines, triple gilt fillet framing the boards, gilt roulette on the edges and inside (period binding).
Good edition, given by the author and partly original with new prefaces, unpublished works, sometimes important additions and corrections and deletions to many texts. It is illustrated with 56 hors-texte plates of which 48 in the atlas and 2 folding tables.
Discoverer of the parthenogenesis of aphids, Charles Bonnet was one of the major naturalists of the 18th century in Europe and deeply influenced the naturalists of his time and of the 19th century. He also became famous for his philosophical palingenesis.
