DULACQ (Joseph). New theory on the mechanism of artillery. Dedicated to the King of Sardinia. Paris, Jombert, 1741.
In-4, marbled calf, spine ornamented, threaded edges.
The illustration includes a frontispiece, a vignette on the title by Soubeyran, 3 bandeaux by Cochin, 39 folding plates representing for the most part geometrical calculations and projections, for the others, weapons and measuring instruments specific to artillery by Dheulland and tables out of the text, 4 of which are folding.
The work is divided into 3 parts: On the mechanism of the powder. - On the projections. - On the percussions.
This publication follows the numerous works of the 18th century to improve artillery, ten years after the first emblematic treatise on ballistics, that of Belidor. Joseph Dulacq (1706-1756) was a brilliant captain in the Piedmontese army, commander of the Artillery School of Turin. Nice copy.
