LICHTENBERGER (Frédéric). Encyclopedia of Religious Sciences. Paris, Sandoz and Fischbacher, 1877-1882.
13 vol. gr. in-8, catalog of theses from different faculties of theology, general index, blue half-percaline bradel (contemporary binding). Ex-libris. Bits fragile, corners worn, otherwise a good copy.
Lutheran pastor and professor at the Faculty of Theology of Strasbourg, Lichtenberger (1832-1899) left annexed Alsace, opposing the German administration and the Prussian coup de force. He then became the dean of the Faculty of Protestant Theology in Paris, considered as a moderate evangelical in the current of Vinet, working for the conciliation between the different currents of French Protestantism. He was also part of the century of positivism and was the first to introduce the notion of "religious science" with his important encyclopedia.
