A certificate dated April 1958, from Professor Giuliano Briganti accompanies our painting. He places our painting in the 1730s, at the beginning of Panini's career. He compares it with the painting (dated 1729) done to commemorate the celebrations organized during the stay of Cardinal de Polignac in Rome.
There are other views of Rome similar in style and composition, influenced by Vanvitelli: View of the Spanish Steps (Duke of Wellington's collection) and especially View of the Piazza del Popolo (in the Oxford Museum).
