Tony Garnier
Tusculum. Current state and restoration. Tony Garnier former resident of the French Academy in Rome.
Lyon, L'Auteur, no date (before 1911). 9 plates in folio in a green percaline flap portfolio with the title printed in red,
The 9 plates reproduce 2 large drawings in colors and 15 drawings of different sizesPublication of his 3rd and 4th year sending to Rome.Always concerned by urban problems, Garnier chose as subject of his 3rd and 4th year sending, not the reconstruction of an isolated monument, but that of a whole city: Tusculum. It should be noted that his choice was unprecedented and was not unrelated to the work he was doing at the same time on "La Cité Industrielle". The great richness of the social program, usual in ancient cities, found its expression in Tusculum, and it must have impressed Garnier. A system of houses with atria, a solution commonly used in the wealthy neighborhoods of Tusculum, inspired his later research on the layout of houses in the reinforced concrete era.
