SANDOZ Édouard Marcel (1881-1971) "Rabbit with turned head" Bronze subject with a slightly shaded brown patina, signed on the left side "Edm Sandoz", with foundry mark "Susse Fes" on the right. Limited edition of seven copies, published from July 1920 to June 1928. Art Deco period, circa 1925 (slight wear to the patina at the base). Height 6.7cm x Width : 6,2 cm Figurist and animal sculptor, Edouard Sandoz was born in 1881 in Basel, Switzerland. Son of the industrialist founder of the chemical and pharmaceutical company, he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris with Antonin Mercié. Although he was also interested in human models, the main subject of Édouard Marcel Sandoz's sculptures remained the animal world, which he sculpted in bronze, marble or ceramics, and whose lines he simplified at the beginning of his career, making them more round, soft and fluid, creating a dynamic impression. As time went by, he moved towards a more detailed representation, without losing that feeling of life. Bibliography: Félix Marcilhac, "Sandoz - Sculpteur figuriste et animalier", Les Editions de l'Amateur, Paris, 1993, pages 372 and 373, model reproduced under number 651.
