FRANCISCO LAPORTA VALOR (Alcoy, 1850-1914). "Ofelia", 1905. Oil on canvas. Re-coloured. It has flaws in the paint and craquelure. It has oxidised varnish and dirt on the paint layer. Dated and located (Barcelona) in the lower right area. Measurements: 93,5 x 69 cm; 103 x 78,5 cm (frame). Francisco Laporta Valor was a painter from Alicante who trained academically at the Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, where he was clearly influenced by his teachers; Alejandro Ferrant, and Francisco Pradilla, among others. After completing his studies he travelled to Paris, and on his return in 1880 he founded the first photoengraving workshop in Madrid. On his return to his native city he opened the first lithography with his friend Camilo Albors and, shortly afterwards, in 1883, he founded the magazine Bellas Artes with the journalist Julio Puig, as well as combining his work as a professor of drawing at the School of Arts, of which he was director from 1984 to 1910, and his political career.
