KOUBA carpet (Caucasus), end of the 19th century Dimensions : 250 x 115cm. Technical characteristics : Wool velvet on wool foundation. A blue field covered with a sowing of flowers, botehs, small animals, stars of the Medes and other Caucasian symbolism, supports two ivory corollas interspersed with compositions of stylized ivory birds. The ivory border decorated with polychrome "double parrots", is framed by a counter border with bayadère stripes and another brick with Medes stars. Sublime example of Kouba decoration.
