Edmond LACHENAL (1855-1948), whose real name was Edouard Achille LACHENAL, was a ceramist trained by Théodore DECK. He created his own workshop in 1881 where he perfected the technique of matte enamel "with pastel, velvety and frosted tones". This new technique allowed him to collaborate with many sculptors. In 1894 or 1895, Edmond LACHENAL began his collaboration with Luca MADRASSI (1848-1919). Our ceramic may have been made after a marble sculpture by MADRASSI, sold at Bonhams, Edinburgh on February 13, 2014. Pierre FIX-MASSEAU (1869-1937), Ferdinand FAIVRE (1860-1937) or Agnès DE FRUMERIE (1869-1937) are also among these sculptors who collaborated with the ceramist.
