Extraordinary representation of a spider catching its prey. The deadly insect, in the center, catches the fly that has fallen into its web. All around, a crown of laurel finely engraved, symbol of success and victory. The very rare subject is engraved on a large rounded sardine, very thick and protruding, like a magic eye. The back has a few holes/channels perhaps for an earlier for an older and earlier assemblage. Signs of wear. Execution very refined. Intaglio: Late Republican art, 1st century B.C.
