TRAVEL BOX with the arms of the family "Mercy d'Argenteau" in mahogany with reinforcing corners, edges and folding handles in brass. Closed by two locks on each side. The lid is decorated with brass motifs of the family's large coat of arms on top of three decorations. It contains two trays with mahogany veneered compartments, with stitched leather drawers. Mounted later on four sheath feet, with mahogany veneered casters. A.B.E (chips and wear). Empty of its accessories. Mid 19th century. History: This box probably belonged to François Joseph Charles Marie de MERCY D'ARGENTEAU (1780 -1869), chamberlain of the Emperor Napoleon I, he will be thereafter governor of the Southern Brabant. His brother Charles-Joseph-Benoît (1787-1879), veteran of the wars of the Empire, was lieutenant-colonel, aide-de-camp to King William of the Netherlands, who made him his chamberlain.
