SAINTE-BEUVE Charles Augustin
31 aut. manuscripts S.l.n.d. 47 pages in-4, 14 pages in-8 and 24 pages in-12.
Collection of 31 autograph manuscripts, notes and philosophical meditations. Important set of unpublished reflections and notes on his philosophical and moral ideas, with numerous erasures and corrections. Sainte-Beuve develops the themes of sensitivity, emotion, happiness, virtue, moral and love instinct, the feeling of beauty. There are two main systems of morals which have divided the philosophy today: that of the interest and that of the disinterestedness. To the system of disinterestedness has been attached the belief in a moral freedom, of which we have never really realized. There is no such thing as freedom in the sense of free will.
