Cécile Villeneuve was a Parisian painter, specialising in portraiture, who produced numerous miniatures (painting on ivory). Portraits of this type were in great demand among the gentry before domestic photography became popular. His works were included in exhibitions held in the 1920s at the Albertina Museum in Vienna (Internationale Miniaturen-Ausstellung 1924). Both portraits are rendered with the meticulous technique of a miniaturist, and are ideally captured psychologically.
