MAURICE ROGEROL (Douai, 1873 - Taza, Morocco, 1946).
"Interior scenes".
Pair of oil paintings on panel.
Signed in the lower left corner.
Size: 35 x 26 cm; 61 x 53 cm (frame).
This genre of paintings, known as "de casacones", was one of the most demanded by the public during the 19th century. They were genre scenes set in the 17th and 18th centuries, and their name comes from the coats in which the male protagonists were dressed.
Maurice Rogerol, born in France and descended from a family of artists, developed his career mainly in the field of sculpture. The magnificent gilt frames that accompany them, with their profusion of ornamental motifs, are particularly noteworthy.
