THIENON (Claude).
Picturesque journey in the bocage of the Vendée, or views of Clisson and its surroundings.
Paris : P. Didot l'aîné, 1817. - 2 parts in one volume in-4, marbled calf, double gilt fillet on the boards, smooth spine decorated, yellow edges (period binding).
Rare first edition of this album of 30 plates of views of Clisson and its surroundings in Brittany. They were engraved by Piringer after the drawings of the painter and aquafortist Claude Thienon (1772-1846). The latter became in 1806 the official painter of Louis Bonaparte then king of Holland.
The plates are preceded by a "Notice historique sur la ville et le château de Clisson" (118 pp.), including as a frontispiece an engraved portrait of the Constable de Clisson after a drawing by Thienon.
A nice copy in contemporary binding. Some foxing.
