VERGILIO (Polidoro). De Inventoribus rerum libri tres. M. Antonii Sabellici de artium inventoribus ad Bassum carmen elegantissimum. [Strasbourg: Matthias Schürer, ca. 1515]. - In-4, stiff parchment, smooth spine, blue edges (17th century binding). New edition given in Strasbourg by Matthias Schürer, of this treatise on the history of inventions by the Italian humanist Polidoro Vergilio (1470?-1555). First published in Venice in 1499, it was initially composed of three "technical" or "anthropological" books. It will be constantly revised by the author who will increase it by five books in 1521 . Mottling in the margins of the first few leaves, perforation in the title with damage to the text on the reverse. Several leaves restored or reinforced in the margins. Provenance: Frédéric Louis Hammer (1762-1837), professor of natural history at the school of pharmacy in Strasbourg, with a handwritten bookplate on the verso of the second endpaper.
