16x15 cm 18th century2 The saint holds a staff in his left hand and points to the plague wound on his uncovered left knee with the other. Floral motifs and racemes envelop his figure. In the part below divided by a double bleu band stands the coat of arms of the Branciforti family, where an arm armed with a sword emerges from the left field of the shield surmounted by a feathered helmet. On April 18, 1683, Easter Sunday, by the Branciforti princes, who administered Butera (Caltanissetta) and were devotees of St. Roch, in the Church of St. Thomas, known as the Mother Church, he was solemnly proclaimed patron saint of the city. Since that time the Sanctuary of St. Roch has always been the destination of many pilgrims, even from neighboring towns, because of the spreading devotion to the saint.
