(Corti)CHAR, René (KANDINSKY): The hammer without a master. Paris : Editions surréalistes, José Corti, 1934. A paperback volume in-8°, in printed and filled covers. Mostly uncut. PARTLY ORIGINAL EDITION for the "Poèmes militants et Abondance viendra" and collective for the other poems. Printed only, in large paper, at 20 numbered copies on Hollande Van Gelder. 1 of these (ex. n°6). (There will be also 12 ex. of author on tinted vellum not reported and a current edition to 500 ex. on Alfa not numbered, cf. P.A. Benoit: n°8 and Sebbag: n°32). Only the first 20 and the author's copies are illustrated with a superb drypoint in colors by KANDINSKYours signed in pencil by the artist. A handwritten correction by the author, in ink, on page 92. Copy complete of the headband quoting a fragment of Heraclitus and of the "Just published" signed Tristan Tzara. The extremely rare subscription form on yellow paper with a quotation from the Comte de Lautréamont is also present here in 4 copies, 3 of which have various handwritten annotations on the verso (Corti ?). Some foxing mainly limited to the head edge, and therefore not extending into the body of the book and two faint foxing on title otherwise EXCELLENT CONDITION.
