FRENCH SCHOOL OF THE EARLY NINETEENTH CENTURY. General Foy, wearing the insignia of the order of the Legion of Honor, the order of Saint Louis and the order of the Crescent. Oil on canvas (restorations). Bears on the back an old label in pen with a biography in German of the general and a label "Collection of Baron Ferdinand Bessières of Istria". 70 x 57 cm. Gilded frame. A.B.E. Biography : Maximilien Sébastien FOY (1775-1825). He distinguished himself in the army of Spain (1808) and defended the passages of the Pyrenees (1813). Liberal deputy of Aisne (1819), then of Paris (1824), ardent defender of the freedom of the press, opponent of the ultras, his funeral was the occasion of an opposition demonstration to the regime.
