Crazy rattle Katsina (Colton 258) Cottonwood (Populus Deltoides), pigments. North America, USA, Arizona, Hopi. Strong wears, discolorations, patina of age restorations, reported base. H : 26 cm Provenance according to the owner : Gallery B.Will Knappen, Santa Fe, acquired in the 1990s. Uncommon Kachina with a painted mask on a green background, the prominent eyes charged with a black band streaked with vertical white lines. The mouth is prominent with simulated teeth. The body is painted green with the arms along the torso. The kilt is painted on a white background and bears the traces of geometric decorations. The legs are widely separated.
