Kachina Fox
Cottonwood (Populus Deltoides), pigments, cord, feathers.
North America, United States, Arizona, Hopi.
H : 40 cm
About 1970
Very large artistic kachina representing the spirit of the fox, wearing an atypical trapezoidal mask with a yellow background adorned with a large black triangle on the forehead surmounted by a tuft of feathers, two prominent eyes and a toothed mouth overloaded on both sides with animal traces. The whole is supported by a collar painted with multicolored dots. The blue torso is painted with a red collar. The arms, attached to the body, are slightly free. The kilt is white, without ritual scarf and painted with multicolored points. The legs, separated, are green with red shoes. This is a non-ritual artistic version of the fox spirit, but it is interesting because it is still identifiable (Colton 261).
