Superb trade kachina of the Hololo dancer, with very detailed treatment.
The mask is painted with a blue/green background, the prominent eyes to watch, the oversized ears are dotted with red and yellow circles. The mask has a sculpted feathered headpiece. The muzzle is prominent with visible painted teeth.
The torso is painted red, the shoulders yellow. The arms are detached from the body in a dancing attitude, wearing yellow bands on the forearms finished with white hands holding a rattle and a bow, the forearms are yellow with white hands holding a bow and a rattle.
The kilt is painted with a white background, ultra realistic, with an embossed side sash belt, protruding from the bottom of the kilt and painted with geometric patterns. In the back, a fox skin in relief. The legs are thin, separated and fitted with very detailed blue/green moccasins.
Hololo is a protective spirit with huge eyes and ears. He can be seen at spring festivals in kivas as well as in mixed dances. As a guardian, he carries a bow and arrows as well as a rattle.
A true sculpture of the living dancer, the quality of detail in this piece makes it an instructive document on the clothing of the Hololo dancer.
