ANG-AK-CHINA Katsina Kachina with long hair (Colton 127) Soft wood, pigments, string, fibers. North America, United States, Pueblo. Natural rubbing and wear, plexiglass base. Second half of the 20th century. H : 30.5 cm Provenance according to the owner : USA, acquired in the years 2000. Beautiful trade kachina conforming in style, of large size, wearing the half mask embellished with a feathered beard figured in paint, the body painted with a black background, the shoulders covered with yellow drips, the arms attached to the torso holding a branch of Douglas fir. The kilt is white with a painted side belt of stepped sky stairs. The legs are separated and slightly bent, the feet shod with green moccasins. The whole sculpture renders a dance movement. Present at regular ceremonial dances, Ang-Ak-China is a spirit of Zuni origin. Synonymous with the promise of a good harvest, he announces the showers that will allow germination. He is seen in the company of his female alter ego Angak'china Mana.
