PROPERTIES FROM A NOTED COLLECTION OF JADES AND SNUFFBOTTLES *A WHITE JADE ‘PLUM FLOWER’ SNUFF BOTTLE CHINA, QING DYNASTY Carved out of a single piece of pale celadon jade. The body is of elongated compressed form, with round shoulders, two carved ‘beast’ handles imitating loose rings, a waisted and short cylindrical neck with a slightly everted rim. The skilful carver used the vein in the stone to pick out the design. The inner part is very well hollowed. Offered at auction together with a stopper. H (stopper excluded): 6,3 cm Weight: 82,4 grams *****HEIGHT SHOULD READ 6,3 CM***** Note: The five petals of the plum blossom symbolize the ‘five blessings’ (wufu - 五福). Also known as the ‘five happinesses’, these five blessings refer to longevity (寿), wealth (富), health and composure (康宁), virtue (修好德), and the desire to die a natural death in old age (考终命).
