Pendule, France, c. 1830/40 housing bronze, gilded, in the base area palmette, volute and foliate ornamentation. Crowning figure of a literary man in thinker's pose, leaning on a stack of books, on a scroll inscription ''Estelle et Némorin'', the title of a work by French poet Jean-Pierre Claris de Florian. Dial supplemented (20th century), inscribed ''Maelgius Paris'', hairline crack, simple pendulum movement also later, thread pendulum, striking movement with strike on tone bell. Function not assured.
