De magnetica vulnerum curatione, citra ullam superstitionem, dolorem, & remedii etiam applicationem, tractatus. Frankfurt a. M., Pistorius 1613. cl.-8°. Title with title vignette in woodcut, 174 pp. Mod. marm. Pbd. Hirsch/Hübotter II, 779. VD17 12:193031D. - Second edition of the treatise on the magnetic treatment of war wounds, first published in 1609, which led to disputes with Jean Roberti (1569-1644) and Johan Baptista van Helmont (1580-1644). - R. Göckel (1572-1621), son of the eminent philosopher R. Göckel, was a professor of physics, medicine and mathematics at the University of Marburg. - "Goclenius gained greatest fame through his controversy about "magnetic wound cures" by means of remote action. Starting from Paracelsus, Goclenius tried to theoretically justify the effectiveness of a sympathetic powder which, applied to a weapon, was supposed to close the wound struck with it. This was opposed by the Belgian Jesuit Jean Roberti, who accused the Protestant Goclenius of covenanting with demons. The dispute was conducted in several publications and counter-publications. If it was argued with successes by this healing method, this is quite credible, since many of the followers of the (so-called) "weapon ointment" (also sympathetic powder, magical remedy for wounds caused by weapons) insisted, in contrast to the orthodox medicine of the time, to wash the wounds with clean water and to provide them with clean bandages, which should also be changed daily" (Wikipedia). - Without the 3 leaves (preface) after the title given in the copy of the Bavarian State Library, the first leaves with rear. Corner tears (no loss of text), browned throughout and occasional light brown spotting, good copy.
