Ingolstadt, Sartorius 1580. 18 pages, 500 pp, [USTC 632166. Important and repeatedly published theological pamphlet in the course of the confessional disputes of the 16th century. The author, Diogo de Paiva de Andrade (1528 - 1575), was professor of theology at the University of Coimbra, participant in the Council of Trent, and is considered the most important representative of the Counter-Reformation in Portugal and one of the most important theologians in Portugal in the 17th century. The work is part of an intellectual dispute with the Protestant theologian Martin Chemnitz, both dealt several times with each other's works. Our copy according to USTC as second Ingolstadt edition of 1580 (third edition in total, the EA appeared posthumously in 1578 in Lisbon). - Former library copy with stamp and spine signature. Binding bumped. Binding somewhat warped. Old hand notes on endpapers, pages remarkably fresh, type area in excellent condition.
