"THE CASTLE OF THE HERBIERS The original wrought iron staircase and the monumental chimney of the kitchens are attached to this ensemble of about 2000 stone blocks that once constituted the Château des Herbiers, also known as the Chartreuse des Herbiers, in Mérignac near Bordeaux. Probably once designed under the direction of Victor Louis (1731-1800). Second half of the 18th century. Sold as is and by appointment only. This historic residence of the Château des Herbiers, also known as the Chartreuse des Herbiers, was once located on the current avenue Henri-Barbusse in Mérignac near Bordeaux. Built in the second half of the 18th century, it was probably the work of the architect Victor Louis (1731-1800), who was particularly active in the region, or of his entourage. Property of the Graterolle family from 1859 to 1922, the castle passed to the Tuffereau family and was completely dismantled in 1988. The original residence was about 25 m long and 15 m wide. This singular ensemble makes it possible to envisage the reconstruction of a remarkable residence in the desired location with period materials. (As an indication, a proposal of architect's plan for a possible reconstruction is proposed).
