Jenkins, Paul o.T. (Phenomena). Watercolor on strong Arches laid paper (with blind stamp). 56 x 76.5 cm. Signed recto and verso. - Spot mounted on backing and framed under glass. Jenkins studied at the Art Students League in New York with Yasuo Kuniyoshi and Morris Kantor. While there, he became acquainted with Mark Rothko, Jackson Pollock, Lee Krasner and Barnett Newman. Beginning with his earliest works, Jenkin's intuitive approach is impressively evident in his particularly luminous treatment of color. Lyrical, sensual, meditative and at the same time expressive are attributes that describe the oeuvre of Paul Jenkins, a major exponent of Abstract Expressionism. With echoes of Lyrical Abstraction and Tachism, Jenkins creates pictorial worlds as spaces of color that do not appear rigid, but rather are in constant fluid motion, capturing the colors of the prism. Mixed media on canvas. Signed, additionally signed, dated and with directional arrow on verso. Framed. - In good condition. Tactile work of strong materiality. Abstract expressionism
