A BLUE AND WHITE 'IMMORTALS' JAR, LATE MING TO TRANSITIONAL PERIOD
China, early 17th century. Of baluster form, depicting a continuous scene with two immortals seated at the shore and stylized fishing boats in the background, above a band of leaves in underglaze blue. The cover decorated with a stylized band of leaves.
Provenance: German private collection, acquired at I.M. Chait Gallery/Auctioneers in 2008. A copy of the original invoice, dated 29.6.2008 and describing the piece as a 'Ming cobalt blue covered jar', accompanies this lot.
Condition: Very good condition, commensurate with age as expected from this type of ware, and some minuscule chips and cracks to the glaze.
