A LARGE LACQUERED KANBAN SHOP SIGN
Meiji period (1868-1912)
The round Kanban for a stomach medicine store, both sides carved with text in kanji on a gold ombre background, the upper part a decorated with a red colored medallion in relief depicting a pair of stylized dragons enclosing circles. Set with a pair of iron handles at the top.
Some of the written texts reads:
Keni Kowa Tamaru 健胃固膓丸: Intestinal pill for strengthening the stomach.
Ôsaka Tani Kaishun Dô 大阪谷回春堂: The store Tani Kaishun in Osaka.
DIAMETER 76 cm excluding the handles
Condition: Overall good condition with surface wear and few cracks to the wood along the borders as well as some chips to the wood and lacquer.
