L.A.S. (monogram), Royan August 1, 1927, [to Gustave SAMAZEUILH]; 2 pages in-8 very full of a small handwriting. Interesting and amusing letter concerning a project for a sonata for violin and piano that never saw the light of day. This sonata makes him "positively enraged. I can never hear the two instruments together. They're in separate camps. The violin takes the lead and the animal discovers itself unable to do anything but sing, to sing like a tenor or to embroider the lines of a light singer. After many conciliatory judgments, I pronounce the divorce to the detriment of the violin (this Muratore) and I take the decision to let it sing all it wants. It's going to be funny (funny... so to speak!). Finally, explain to me why this boy, who is so well organised in families, quartets, trios or even orchestras, is so badly behaved in the world that he only knows how to roll around at the feet of the ladies or indulge in his little tricks as a travelling salesman: harmonic sounds, staccati, pizzicati etc.... The virtuous piano blushes"....
