L.A.S. "H. Berlioz", [Paris] 3 October 1829, to his friend Humbert FERRAND, in Belley (Ain); 3 pages in-8, address. A beautiful letter from his early days, on the organization of a concert. He writes to him in a hurry. "The hostilities are started again. I give a concert on November 1st, All Saints' Day. I have already obtained the room of the menus pleasures, CHERUBINI instead of opposing me this time, is well disposed. I will give two grand overtures, the Concert des Sylphes [from the Scenes of Faust] and Conrad's grand aria [from Les Francs-Juges] (to which I have added a grand obligatory recitative) and for which I have reworked the instrumentation. It was Dabadie who promised me yesterday to sing it for me. HILLER plays me a Piano Concerto by BEETHOVEN, which has never been performed in Paris [the 5th, "The Emperor"]; sublime... immense. Melle Heinefetter, whose success at the Théâtre Italien must have been reported in the newspapers, will sing the scene from Freyschütz for me in German, at least she does not ask for anything better, all that is missing is the authorization of Mr. Laurent the director. HABENECK conducts my orchestra, which, you can believe it, will be fulminating..... Will it be said that you will never hear me?... Come to Paris, if only for eight days. I could not go to the Coast. I have so much to do, to copy, that I am already leaving you [...] Mayer-Beer [MEYERBEER] has just arrived from Vienna, the day after his return, he had Schlesinger compliment me on Faust. A musical journal wrote a three-column article about me. He ends in English, quoting Thomas Moore: "Farewell, we may meet again, I trust, come, come then; t'is not so long". Correspondance générale, t. VIII, n° 138.
