Antonius Triest was appointed fifth bishop of Bruges. He succeeds in persuading the city to provide financial aid for the reconstruction of churches and monasteries. On July 10, 1620, Triest was appointed bishop of Ghent. For the cathedral he bought remarkable works of art, among others from the painter Antoon van Dyck. His tomb, made by Jerome Duquesnoy the Younger, can be found in the crypt of St. Bavo's Cathedral.
