GEO-FOURRIER (Lyon, 1898 - Quimper, 1966) Georges FOURRIER, called "Fouesnant". Wood engraving gouache with stencil. Edition of Etablissements artistiques parisiens. Height : 18 cm. Width : 12 cm. (Paper warped, yellowed). These woodcuts enhanced with gouache are the result of the collaboration between Geo-Fourrier and the Editions Artistiques Parisiennes. Brittany was honored in 1933 with the first series of postcards. The immense success of the series led the painter to paint the whole of France between 1933 and 1939. The ultimate reward, Geo-Fourrier received a gold medal at the 1937 Exhibition. These series are the result of an orderly process: Géo-Fourrier sends his sketch taken on the spot with color indications to the publisher who, in the studio, engraves it on wood, prints it and colors it with a stencil. And this, in three formats. Photographic processes, less expensive, will be the reason for these prints in the 1950s.
