In all likelihood the upper part of the brooch, the flower motif comes from an ancient Indian motif. As pointed out in the book dedicated to Cartier jewelry written by Olivier Bachet or the catalog of the Cartier exhibition held in Paris (Musée des Arts Décoratifs Nov 2021-March 2022) the house Cartier has reused old pieces in the heart of contemporary creations to the years 1915-1930. "From the beginning of the twentieth century, the influence of Indian jewelry on the production of Cartier is felt. This influence is found in the forms and in the revival of traditional Indian motifs - boots, sarpech, etc. - This influence can be seen in the shapes and in the use of traditional Indian motifs - boots, sarpech, etc. - but also, as in the case of this brooch, in the use of primers, i.e., dismantled pieces from jewelry, but also fragments of antique elements or various artifacts ready to be reused by Cartier in new creations. This use of Indian primers was particularly important in the late 1930s." Cartier Paris signature and eagle head hallmark on the double pin.
