Mazel/Smak the beloved brigand. Original double plate published in the newspaper Tintin illustrating a short story of a band of clumsy and endearing robbers. We find the beginnings of the characters of Calebasse with his horse Câline. Quality work which is not without reminding the style of Morris. India ink around 1965. TBE. 30 X 44 cm Luc Maezelle aka Mazel (1931) studied at the Saint Luc Institute, practiced architecture for five years and then turned to comics. After a Beautiful Story of Uncle Paul published in Spirou, he enters the weekly Tintin. In 1961, he drew a few complete stories, then the Tarantula Affair, his first story to follow. In 1962-63, he worked at the Belvision animation studios, then undertook some short stories in Pilote, under the signature of Zem. From 1964 to 1966, again for Tintin, he created Bôjolet and Riesling, a series followed from 1966 to 1968 by Fleurdelys, scripted by Vicq. In 1969, in the weekly Spirou, he joined forces with Raoul Cauvin and began Câline et Calebasse until 1977. At the same time, he works in the Greg studio and participates in the series Les As published in Pif Gadget. For this same medium, in collaboration with Dédé, he realized Chacal Bill, a humorous western that he signed under the name of Mavericq. Again for Spirou, he gave birth to Boulouloum et Guiliguili in 1975; this series scripted by Raoul Cauvin was later renamed Les Jungles Perdues. From 1981 to 83, he animated Jessie Jane on a text by Frydman. In 1989, this time on his own texts, he resumed Câline et Calebasse under the new title Les Mousquetaires. At the same time, he realized with Cauvin some gags of Paparazzi.
