BATEM
MARSUPILAMI
Batem, a life in drawings, Dupuis 2021
Pas touche !, original illustration made in 2016. Signed. Acrylic on paper
73.2 × 50 cm (28.82 × 19.69 in.)
A knockout in the first round, as usual. The assault has just taken place: the Marsupilami still keeps his tail as a weapon. The little one has a face as fierce and fierce as her father... As for the jaguar, he only sees stars, the bells escaping his cognitive universe. "This is one of my first acrylics," says Batem. "I had just discovered this technique, like oil. Until then, I only knew ecoline and watercolor. Acrylics are full of surprises! For example, for the leaves making a frieze at the bottom of the illustration, I abandoned my work for a few hours. And the painting continued to live without me, to evolve - for the better! It looks like the colors are getting along with each other." For Batem, this work could be a large comic book box treated in an illustrative manner.
