Interior with peasants
Landscape with farmhouse and peasants
Oil on canvas, cm 73X97 (2)
Provenance:
Rome, Galleria W. Apolloni
Brother of Pieter and Jan Frans Bloemen, Norbert trained in the family studio and joined his brothers in Rome where he is documented in 1690, but soon returned home to Antwerp and from 1710 moved to Amsterdam. The artist's style is typical in these canvases, with bright colors and a diffuse luminosity, aspects already highlighted by admirers of his time and contemporary critics. His typically Nordic production counts historical subjects, interior scenes and portraits with an Italianizing style, especially when he deals with genre scenes, indebted to Roman bamboozling culture. The paintings under consideration can be referred to his Italian sojourn.
