Youthful male head with no beard. The hair is formed by a compact mass that appears partially unfinished. The hair falls on the nape of the neck and the temples. They must have been painted or covered with a metal helmet. The almond-shaped eyes, very wide-set, are underlined by a thin bead. The lips are thin and partially realistic. The style, emphasizing a certain rectitude and a great softness of the features, is a direct borrowing from the Greek classical style. White marble (probably of Greek origin), slightly patinated. Roman work of the 1st century BC - 2nd century AD, after a Greek original of the second third of the 5th century BC. Similar heads are preserved in Olympia (pediment of the temple of Zeus, ca. 474 - 457 B.C.) or in the Parthenon (metopes and decoration of the Lapithes, mid 5th century B.C.) H. 21 cm. Provenance : Mr. G. Collection. A roman marble head, 1st century B.C. - 2nd century. Provenance : French collection,
