Co-founder of the Salon d'automne, leader of the Murol school, Victor Charreton was successful during his lifetime, exhibiting at the Salon. Neo-impressionist, he borrowed from impressionism the painting of the open air, the motif of nature and the work on the variation of light. It is thanks to his wife that he discovered the nature of Auvergne, one of his favorite places of work. Here painting on the ground, perhaps in Auvergne, he synthesizes and exceeds impressionism. Indeed, the colors of this oil painting, partly applied with a knife, announce Fauvism.
