Sculptor of Polish origin, Igor Mitoraj is inspired in his work by ancient statuary, with a production of truncated or mutilated sculptures. He collaborates with the goldsmith Christofle in the work that we present at the sale.
Bandaged Face was produced for the New Year 1977, and bears the inscription "Happy New Year". The sculpture represents a face, ungendered, entirely covered with bandages, like a mummy, except for the mouth which remains open.
Resolutely modern, this mysterious figure refers in its own way to the ancient masterpieces that are the Cristo Velato by Giuseppe Sanmartino (1753), and the feminine Vergine velata by Giovanni Strazza (1860).
