Galician school, 18th century.
"Saint".
Carved and polychrome wood.
Faults in the carving and polychromy.
Measurements: 67 x 21 x 10 cm.
Devotional carving, in polychrome wood, representing a saint or virgin wrapped in a blue mantle that folds at waist height and also joins with the veil that covers her head. The long tunic, draped in vertical folds, covers her from her neck to her feet. Her hands, showing her palms, are deliberately large, symbolising the maternal character of the figure. This anatomical disproportion for allegorical purposes follows solutions of Gothic heritage, despite the advanced nature of the period; an adherence to tradition that was common in small regional workshops.
