Gustave Leonard de JONGHE (Courtrai 1829 - Antwerp 1893). "The music" Original canvas Without frame Height : 96 cm Width : 121,5 cm Signed lower right "G. De Jonghe". Restorations Exhibition: Probably Salon of 1855, no. 288 (La Musique). The painting could represent, from right to left : Franz Liszt, George Sand, Daniel, Blandine and Cosima (the three children that Liszt had with Marie d'Agoult). Liszt is at the piano - he has the eyes in the air, as in the composition by Josef Danhauser - while George Sand - with her black hair adorned with a flower and her oval chin - is listening. Franz Liszt regularly stayed in George Sand's sumptuous George Sand's sumptuous home in Nohant in the 1830s and 1840s. Liszt's children, Daniel, Cosima and Blandine would be respectively 10, 12 and 14 years old, and George Sand 45. The two girls could also be Solange, the daughter of George, who is 21 years old in 1849, and Augustine, the young cousin of the writer, who arrived in Nohant in 1846 (she was then 18 years old). In 1855, Gustave de Jonghe left Brussels for Paris. Expert: Cabinet Turquin
