Daphne. Paris, F. L. Schmied, 1924. In-4 grey morocco, smooth spine, bands of garnet-red morocco on the boards including a current one on the spine with the name of the author in gilt letters and a vertical band in the center of the first board bearing the title in mosaic letters of black morocco on a background of semis of gilt dots, linings of garnet-red morocco in a frame of gilt fillet, garnet-red moire endpapers, gilt tr., in a grey half-maroquin folder and edged case, cover and spine preserved (Ad. Lavaux). Spine of the folder slightly oiled with some slight rubbing.
Schmied's illustrations include a cover, 49 woodcuts in color, 5 of which are full-page, 25 head and foot bands and 19 large ornate letters, most of them enhanced with silver. The first important book of Schmied with a very elegant and refined layout and typography. Color discharges on the facing pages as usual.
Edition of 140 copies; n°116 with Schmied's signature on the receipt.
