STUDIO MANASSÉ / OLGA WLASSICS (1896–1969) | ‘Olly von Wlassics’ (Self-portrait), Vienna 1928 | Vintage silver print, double-weight semi-matte paper, in excellent condition 22 x 16,4 cm Photographer’s signature “Manassé Wien” in the negative lower left, studio stamp, “Wiener Photo-Kurier” stamp, handwritten negative no. “14201 / 19150a” and several annotations on the reverse In 1924, the Hungarian couple Olga and Adorján Wlassics founded their studio Manassé on Vienna’s Kärntner Ring, which shaped a specifically glamorous style for nude and portrait photography. Although this photograph depicts the owner of the studio herself, it is not a typical self-portrait. A variant from the same session was published under the title “From Viennese society: Mrs Olly von Wlassics” in the magazine “Wiener Magazin” (April 1928, p. 13). Das aus Ungarn stammende Ehepaar Olga und Adorján Wlassics gründete 1924 ein Fotoatelier am Wiener Kärntner Ring, das unter dem Namen „Manassé” eine spezifisch glamouröse Bildsprache für Akt- und Porträtfotografie prägte. Das vorliegende Bildnis stellt die Betreiberin des Studios selbst dar, ist aber kein typisches Selbstporträt. Eine Aufnahme aus derselben Sitzung wurde unter dem Titel „Aus der Wiener Gesellschaft: Frau Olly von Wlassics” in der Zeitschrift „Wiener Magazin” publiziert (April-Heft des Jahres 1928, S. 13).
