HOMER. THE ILIAD - THE ODYSSEY. P., Didot l'aîné, 1787-88. Twelve volumes in-18 long-grained red chevrette, smooth spine with partitions, gilt title and tomaison, gilt edges (Binding of the period). Bindings a little soiled and stained, spotting, angular wetness in the last few pages of vol. 5 of The Odyssey. THIRD EDITION for the Iliad and SECOND EDITION for the Odyssey, both with remarks, preceded by reflections on Homer and on the translation of the poets by Paul Jérémie BITAUBÉ (1732-1808), also translator of the work. 2 PORTRAITS and 49 FIGURES off-text (of which 2 folding). These engravings were engraved in 1781 by Biosse. A GREAT SET in uniform binding, uncommonly complete with the volumes and all the engravings. ¶ Cohen, 496, with also mention of 3rd and 2nd edition for each of the texts.
