Cameroon/Mambila. Healing fetish "Tadep" in carved wood with its original headdress in studs. Double back cavity with an original charge. Middle of the 20th century. H 38 X 12 cm including base.
The pose is endearing with scarifications enhanced in white with kaolin. The back has a double cavity with an original charge.
This type of statue is supposed to personify the ancestors who, according to Mambila beliefs, were responsible for the prosperity of the tribe.
